There are tons and tons of Android based tablets out there, none of them are able to compete with the iPad. If you remember, the only Android based tablet that managed to compete with the iPad ( just barely though) was the Samsung Galaxy 7 inch Tab. Both these devices were launched in India, but the iPad won the global battle. Apple is looking at India as a serious tablet market, the quick launch of the iPad2 in India seems to suggest. Even though it was much later than the global launch, late last month Apple launched the successor to the original iPad, the iPad2 and is reportedly selling like hot cakes!
Now Samsung wants a piece of the tablet market in India and launching two new Android Honeycomb 3.0 based tablets in India. Honeycomb is Google’s first tablet optimised mobile OS. Ranjit Yadav, Country Head, Samsung Mobile and IT, Samsung India confirmed the tablets in a statement to the Business Standard, “We will launch the 10-inch tablet PC at around Rs 35,000 and the 8-inch device will be priced around Rs 28,000. While the tablet PC market today stands at around 25,000 units a quarter, we expect it to grow exponentially here on.”
While this statement does not confirm which models will bare these price tags, it does give us an approximate pricing on the devices, I’m guessing the 8.9 Tab wll be priced Rs. 28,000/- onwards and the 10.1 Tab will start from Rs. 35,000/- onwards. Samsung’s new Android based smartphone, Galaxy S 2 is expected to be released anytime this month. This shows the interest that Samsung has in the mobile computing market in India. While we wait for an official release date and the complete price sheet, here’s a look at the specifications of both these tablets.
