Apple's iPad Price

With rumors strongly suggesting Apple’s iPad 2 is on its way to launch in this summer, the price of first iPad version is likely to come down, according to sources.

Though it is not officially confirmed by Apple, it is being expected that owing to intense competition from its rivals like Samsung and Motorola’s Xoom, Apple would certainly reduce the price of its iPad. The prices are expected to come down as low as $199.

Besides, it is also to be noted that Apple’s iPad 2 is rumored to be launched somewhere around March or April. This could also be one of the reasons for price reduction.

According to unofficial reports, some of the well-known online selling firms including BestBuy and Amazon are set to drop the iPad prices. Whether it is rumor or fact, it is quite logical to guess that the company would try to push the sales of its earlier versions along with its new versions.

“iPad 2 is expected to be released in the Spring so retailers like Best Buy and Amazon should be busy clearing space, both physical and virtual to sell the device. I would expect iPads to drop down to $299 or maybe even $199 for a refurbished model. This probably won’t happen until Apple starts taking pre-sale orders of the iPad 2,” a source quoted.

Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet

Pros
Full-sized USB 2.0 port. Optional 3G. Excellent, though optional, keyboard folio case and accurate stylus pen.

Cons
A bit chunky. Frequent app crashes in our tests. Occasionally unresponsive screen. Subpar battery life.

Bottom Line
The Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet boasts excellent accessories that can transform the tablet into an on-the-go business machine. But short battery life and some stability issues make it a questionable choice for casual and corporate users alike.

Though tablets are growing more and more popular among mainstream consumers, they have yet to prove themselves as viable replacements for laptops when it comes to productivity. With the 10.1-inch ThinkPad Tablet ($499,16GB; $569, 32GB; $669, 64GB; direct), Lenovo puts forth a tablet aimed at business users, but it lacks reliability and performance that has made the company's ThinkPad line so successful in the corporate world.

The most intriguing aspect of the ThinkPad Tablet is not the tablet itself, but its stylus and keyboard folio accessories, which cost an additional $140. There's some good design and functionality here including a full-size USB port, and an option to add 3G connectivity, but frustrating app crashes and some unresponsiveness hold this Lenovo tablet back.

Motorola Droid Xyboard 10.1 Tablet

Motorola Droid Xyboard 10.1 (Verizon Wireless)
Pros
Integrated LTE. Good looking.

Cons
Very expensive for what you get. No memory card slot. Poor Mac compatibility. Verizon's app store is awful.

Bottom Line
The Motorola Xyboard 10.1 is outpaced by other Honeycomb Android tablets which cost less.

The Motorola Xyboard 10.1 is not quite enough tablet, for too much money. While it's much more handsome than the Xoom tablet it replaces, the Xyboard can't overcome its high price or Google Android Honeycomb's ongoing trouble with third-party apps.

Physical Design and Pricing
Slim at 10 by 6.8 by .35 inches, the Xyboard comes with a soft-touch back and slightly cropped corners, like something out of "Battlestar Galactica." The front is dominated by the 10.1-inch, 1,280-by-800-pixel screen; it's not that bright, but has very rich colors and blacks. At 1.33 pounds, it weighs the same as the iPad 2 ($499-$829, 4.5 stars), which is an average weight for a tablet this size.

The Power button and Volume rocker, along with the main 5-megapixel camera and stereo speakers, are on the back panel; there's a VGA camera on the front. The battery isn't removable, and there's no memory card slot, so the whole thing feels like a single, solid, seamless slab. It's classy, to be sure.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus

Pros
Fast. Makes it easier to find Honeycomb apps. Attractive UI adds useful features.

Cons
Remote app doesn't work well. Honeycomb still lacks tablet-oriented apps.

Bottom Line
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus is as good as a midrange Honeycomb tablet can get nowadays. If anything can save the Honeycomb tablet field, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus ($399 list, 16GB) can. Slim, elegant, and entertainment-focused, this is about as good as a 7-inch Google Android Honeycomb tablet gets. But while Samsung manages to solve one of Honeycomb's most critical problems with a custom app store, this product line is still slightly uncomfortably wedged between budget and high-end tablets.

Physical Design and Connectivity
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus looks like a shrunken-down version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 ($469, 3.5 stars) and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 ($499, 3.5 stars.) These are the best-looking, best-built Android tablets on the market, slim black and gray slabs (in this case, 7.6 by 4.8 by .39 inches and 12.1 ounces) clearly made of quality materials. The Galaxy Tab 7.0 will slip unnoticeably into a coat pocket. It's lovely.

Lenovo IdeaCentre A600 Comes with the Latest in Desktop Design

Lenovo’s desktops and laptops are normally very business-minded, with apparently little thought given to style. But not the IdeaCentre A600. It has looks to compete with HP TouchSmart and Apple iMac. Lenovo actually claims that it’s the thinnest AIO computer in the market today, and from its looks, it’s most likely true. It’s not a touchscreen AIO like HP’s TouchSmart series though, but the A600 introduces a different form of interaction altogether in the form of its 4-in-1 remote control.

3K Computer releases RazorBook 400 CE

Netbooks seem to be all the rage these days, and just when we think that netbooks are the lowest common denominator when it comes to a decent computing device for use on-the-go, along comes 3K Computer and their new Windows CE-powered netbook which will definitely attract plenty of attention with a price point of a mere $150. Dubbed the RazorBook 400 CE, you will get a bare bones configuration which makes this much less underpowered compared to even the original Eee PC 701 which was released quite a while back, but still able to keep you connected online for extremely casual web browsing, email checking and making the odd VoIP call from time to time.
